This wreck is special to me because I spent a couple of years gathering various reference material on tank wrecks and destroyed vehicles. Also the release of the Dragon kit with all the goodies including PE was all I needed to get started. I wanted to depict a full blown wreck with the interior including the motor compartment. For the motor compartment I went with the resin set from CMK, this was more detailed than the Verlinden set.
For the rest of the interior some of the turret items come with the kit and some scratch building. I also chose to scratch the lower hull details since it was to be a wreck and most of it would show heavy damage. Other than the CMK motor compartment and the kit supplied parts, everything is scratchbuilt.
As with all models of wrecks it's the small details that make it convincing. By using thin sheet styrene and alu or brass sheet, the damage can easily be replicated. The above pic shows the thin metal of the fuel tank which was blown outward as the fuel ignited.
The next few pics show the extent of the build, very time consuming but worth it in the end.
For the weather of this wreck I used the salt and hairspray techniques, followed by oil washes and filters. For the rust I used real rust powders in various shades and applied to the wash in some areas and dry in others. For me this is the fun part of doing wrecks and destroyed tanks, the experimenting with different materials to achieve a realistic finish.
