The Queen of the Desert .... The Matilda
I actually started this model about seven years ago, actually it was the old Tamiya kit. I had managed to get started on the motors and some of the compartment, but gave up to lack of interest. Now that Tamiya released the all new Matilda and I have one, I got motivated to try it again.
The first thing I did was to compare the two kits and found a huge size difference. So it was back to the drawing, but I will be using the motor blocks which will be altered to fit in the new kit's hull. The scratchbuilt motor compartment with twin leyland motors will be used as masters and resin copies made of them. In fact the entire compartment will then be cast in resin.
I may use the awesome Matilda resin interior from Inside the Armor, when it's released. Now all I have to do is decide on if this will be a full blown wreck or just some open rear hatches.
Here are some progress pics of what I have done so far.
As you can see in the pics, a lot has been done to the compartment, and the stripped down motor blocks. The motors still need to be cut down 4-5mm so they fit in the new kit's hull. Details will then be added to the motors.
More to follow.
