With the turret chipping done, I moved onto the upper hull. I worked
small sections at a time with stiff brushes and warm tap water,
removing the paint, forming the chips and rusty areas. It's important
to work small areas at a time, panels, to create realistic paint chips.
Removing the paint is done a bit different than the HS technique for a
faded and worn white wash.
With
the rust chipping one must use more water, letting it sit, softening
the paint and HS longer that the white wash method. The reason for this
is that the paint will "blister" and lift, and it's at this point that
you start the chipping with small stiff brushes and tooth pics. For the
white wash you have to "scrub" off the paint, which is not all that
great for forming accurate chips and rust spots.
In my videos I show
how I go about doing the chipping and rusting. The chipping of the
paint is the first step in creating the rust so it isn't necessary to
try and create the perfect chips. Other techniques come into play to
get them perfect.
For now here are some pics of the upper hull chipping.
Here is a link to the videos. I'm still trying to get the hang of doing videos so they may not be perfect.

Next will be the chipping of the sides and lower hull.
