SCRATCHMOD - THE ART OF DESTRUCTION

Slime Green effects

AK Interactive seems to be on a roll releasing new weathering products, and the slimey grime effects is definitely something new. Since hearing of this new product I was dying to test it out some how. The light and dark green slime effects I believe were meant to be used to replicate the algae/moss seen on such things as wooden fences and buildings. I decided to try it out on a turret since what I build are mostly wrecks and rust buckets.

The slimey grime is enamel based as with their other weathering products, and in the same size bottle, more than enough to last quite a while. As with the other "effects" from AK Interactive, continuous shaking of the bottle is required to always maintain the right color and consistence.

I used and old Tamiya PZ IV turret for this experiment. I first primed and then applied a base rust color since I wanted to really see what this product can do. I believe that this way is much better than just applying the product to a piece of plastic card.

I then applied a clear coat to seal the rust color, and this was then followed by the tanks base color.

I figured I would try something different again and use Crackle medium to get the chipped effect.

The turret chipped and ready for some basic rusting, after all this is what would normally be done on a build.

With the chipping done I started the rusting, first with some Lifecolor acrylics, MIG Productions oil paints ( not pictured). I then added some light streaking with AK streaking effects.

With this set aside to dry for 24 hours I then turned to the slime grime light effects. This was applied in random but logical areas in one coat. For the areas that need more I simply stippled a second layer with an old brush. By using a thinner dampened brush, excess and streaks can be accomplished. This is the same as using the other effects from AK Interactive, just with slimey green.

After letting this dry a couple hours it was time for the dark slimey grime effects.
I applied this darker color only in the thicker more built up areas. By using the thinner dampened brush you can manipulate and remove the slime to get various effects.

Overall the effects achieved look pretty darn good but I wanted to enhance the effects more so I added some light green acrylic paint using the sponge technique to replicate some algae type thing often seen growing like moss. I'm no Botonist but you get the idea of what I mean.

The XF 21 Sky color adds to the otherwise great slimey grime effects from AK.

I have also been experimenting on a larger scale by using it in wet areas as seen below.

Here as algae floating on still ponds.

In my opinion this is a welcome addition to the collection of weathering products, and saves the time and effort to try and mix these types of colors.
